Goodbye My Dear Sanja

The seventh track from the 1988 album 'Dajte mi dajte bure vina'. An emotional rock ballad about parting, nostalgia, and unfulfilled dreams.

About the Track

“Goodbye My Dear Sanja” (Zbogom draga moja Sanja) is one of the most emotional tracks on the album. The song combines narrative parts with a powerful chorus, describing a painful social and emotional gap between two people, wrapped in the recognizable production of the “BLAP” studio.

Production and Recording

Recorded and mixed at the legendary “BLAP” Studio during June and July 1988 at the Skenderija Youth Center in Sarajevo. The album was produced by Brano Likić, with Zoran Šebedžija as the sound engineer.

Lyrics (English Translation)

While you sit with him in an expensive restaurant by the candlelight that understands nothing, he chokes on his own lies, at a lavish table unknown to your eyes. But you know he will take you somewhere in an expensive car to a cheap motel when you are at the edge of your consciousness… Oh, my dear Sanja.

You’re leaving, I feel it’s forever,
Say goodbye, I can’t be with you.
You travel down the long river,
You’re leaving with him for a new city.

I remember, the rains were falling
And you in them like a flower.
“I love you” – you said then, whispering my name,
I was young, in love and blind.
You travel down the long river,
You’re leaving with him for another city.

Chorus:
Bring her back to me, I can’t live without her,
Bring her back to me, I don’t know how to love without her.
Bring her back to me, I can’t live without her,
Bring her back to me, I don’t know how to love without her,
I don’t know how to love without her.

When you grow old, remember that someone somewhere far away no longer dreams or breathes, because there are no sleeping waiters or expensive restaurants. All that’s left is a song, just a song from life’s dark side. Goodbye, goodbye my dear Sanja.

You’re leaving, I feel it’s forever,
Say goodbye, I can’t be with you.
You travel down the long river,
You’re leaving with him for a second city.

You’re growing cold like a stone,
Forgetting all our nights,
When I kissed your sweaty body,
Whispering: “Darling, I’m afraid this will pass.”
You travel down the long river,
You’re leaving with him for another city.

Chorus (repetition):
Bring her back to me, I can’t live without her,
Bring her back to me, I don’t know how to love without her.
Bring her back to me, I can’t live without her,
Bring her back to me, I don’t know how to love without her,
I don’t know how to love without her.
